The Wine Bar
Located in Watercolor Florida and home to a large selection of wines and cheese.
I spent 3 years working at The Wine Bar as a hostess and eventually an expeditor, and I wouldn’t trade that time for the world.
I gained great experience and best of all, a wonderful work family that would be there for me through my last two years of high school and wait for me to come back from college.
I started off as a hostess and worked my way up to lead hostess. I trained in new hosts and bussers and lead my team each night to ensure we kept the flow of the restaurant running smoothly. When Covid hit, I was let off for a while but ultimately came back and added to my skills by helping out as a cocktail waitress. Because of the restrictions on being inside with covid still a big deal, we set up a small bar outside and I would help serve wine while people waited for tables.
As we lost some staff here and there, also due to Covid, I stepped up to be an expeditor on busy nights when they didn’t have enough servers to watch the food window and ensure the food got to where it needed to go.
Due to both of these job upgrades, I was offered two raises. The first from $8-$10 an hour, and then from $10-$12 an hour and was the only hostess making $12.
