Extracirriculars

On campus, my main extracurricular commitment is my sorority Tri Delta.

I participated in rush my freshman year even though it was covid year and we couldn’t do it in person. I was super nervous to rush, because it was so non traditional that year and I was worried that with it being online, I wouldn’t be able to find anywhere that I fit in. I did it anyways though and ended up in Tri delta and it was a perfect match. Since then, I’ve made memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

In Tri delta, our philanthropy is St. Jude Children’s Hospital. We host a variety of philanthropy events throughout the year to raise money for St. Jude. If you didn’t know, St. Jude runs solely off of donations, and Tri delta is one of their biggest donors. There are houses with the Tri Delta name on them, for patients and their families to stay in during treatment. We set fundraising goals each year and last year we made over $85,000 for St. Jude.

Outside of my sorority and work, I don’t have time to participate in much else. However, I have been doing my best to involve myself in events within my college. For example, I volunteered at the Governor’s conference that was held at our new rooftop bar at The Laurel. Then, after I became familiar with the director of my food production class, he asked me if I would be interested in working an Epicurean wine experience that was being held at The Laurel and 1856. I accepted and worked as a server for the wine dinner where we served 9 courses and learned about the cultures and food of Brazil from the Brazilian chefs that flew in specifically for our event.

After the event, I was able to make good enough connections with the guest chefs, on top of the good relationships I already had with our 1856 chefs, and I was invited to eat brunch with them and their sommelier the next morning.
